Small Business Saturday

This Saturday, November 30th, is Small Business Saturday.  The concept for Small Business Saturday was started by American Express in 2010 and the idea took off.  Now each year nationwide, the Saturday after Thanksgiving has become a day dedicated to patronizing local businesses.

Shopping at small businesses in the area not only benefits that business, but the community as a whole. For every dollar that you spend at a locally owned business approximately sixty-eight cents goes back to the community.  By comparison, national chains only return about forty-three cents for every dollar spent.

Downtown Appleton has over 70 local businesses including; pubsclubsshops, and a variety of restaurants. With the holidays right around the corner, this weekend is the perfect time to shop for all those on your list and treat yourself to the historic charm of Downtown Appleton.

Beginning Saturday, November 30th, when you purchase $100 in Downtown Appleton Gift Certificates you will receive a BONUS gift certificate.  Hurry in while the supplies last, only a limited number of bonus gift certificates are available.  The certificates can be purchased at the Downtown Appleton Indoor Winter Farm Market from 9am-noon inside City Center.

Don’t forget to check out your favorite local businesses Twitter accounts before heading out! Businesses will be using the hash tag #shopsmall to make it easier for customers to learn more about their Small Business Saturday specials.
