The holidays can be a costly time of year with gifts, travel, food, decorations and more.  So here are some ways to deck your halls without spending a fortune:

**Ornament Cylinders** – Put those extra ornaments to use!  Instead of putting unused tree decorations back into storage try creating some beautiful centerpieces and place them around the house.  Add a little sparkle to your home with these easy to do [ornament cylinder](http://www.southernliving.com/home-garden/holidays-occasions/christmas-decorating-ideas-00400000059442/page24.html) decorations.  All you need to do is fill an empty cylinder vase with your assortment of ornaments. The great thing about making them yourself is that you can add a personal touch to your Christmas decorations.

**Dress Up Your Staircase** – Incorporate your staircase into your home decorating by wrapping the handrail with garland or lights.  There are lots of other great ideas for your stairs on [Pinterest](http://www.pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=christmas%20decorations%20staircase)!

**Wrap Your Coffee Table** – Spruce up your coffee table with a bow! Create a large present by wrapping your coffee table with a festive ribbon. This is a simple and creative way to add a touch of the season to your coffee table!

**Coordinate Your Color Scheme** – Carrying the same colors throughout your decorations is a great way to pull everything together.  Use one color or a group of colors that go together to decorate your home for the holidays.  The traditional scheme of red, green, and white is always a safe and classic look.

**A Christmas Countdown** –  Rather than going out and purchasing an advent calendar try making your own.  Creating your own advent calendar can be a fun and bonding activity for your family.
