Cypress Homes Tree Seedling Program

TREE SEEDLING giveaway!

At Cypress Homes, we care deeply about our customers and their homes, as well as the communities in which we build those homes.  We are always looking for ways to give back and improve our local area, so we've continued our tree-seedling program for the second straight year.

Teaming up with the Arbor Day Foundation's Bare-Root Tree program, Cypress will receive seedlings shipped in a dormant state, and will then coordinate the distribution of these seedlings to our customers, friends, and anyone else looking to plant and care for a new tree.  There will then be directions given on how to properly plant your seedling within the few days following that pickup.

HOW TO PLANT YOUR SEEDLING

We're coordinating our seedling giveaway with the WHBA Parade of homes events this upcoming weekend, hoping to give out seedlings on the first day of the parade (6/10). We'll have members of our team at our parade homes to hand out the trees and point you in the right direction for taking your seedling home. You'll also find the Right Tree in the Right Place tool that the Arbor Day Foundation has created to be helpful in determining where to plant your seedling on your property.

Cypress will be receiving the following types of seedlings; River Birch (adult, left) & Eastern White Pine (adult, right).

Dependent on demand, you may be able to receive multiple seedlings.

Though we have outlined out some starter instructions for caring for your seedling below, you can direct additional questions about your bare root-tree by directly calling Arbor Day Foundation  Member Services toll-free at 888-448-7337 from 8am-7pm CST.

HOW TO care for YOUR TREE

The Arbor Day foundation has laid out a robust handling and instruction kit to help ensure your seedling is properly planted.   Watch the video below, with some of these important instructions include:

  • Soaking roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting, carefully untangling the roots.
  • Digging a hole that seems wider than necessary, about 18" wide.
    • You can keep tree in a pot and transplant when it grows a little bit, transplanting during dormant season.
    • If planting directly in ground, protecting w/ a fence or barrier is encouraged.
  • Plant tree at same depth would have stood in nursery- ensuring not to use fertilizer or chemicals in the process.
  • Backfill in remaining soil firmly, but not too tight. Water your tree.
  • Spread mulch to protect the trunk, making sure to not touch the trunk.
  • Keep soil around tree moist, watering every 7-10 days during first year.
  • It is recommended that you keep the roots of the tree moist and plant in soil or a pot within 5 days of receiving the tree.
  • If you wish to schedule a pickup of the seedling prior to our weekend event on June 10th-11th, you can reach out to us at our main office number at 920-734-2324 during normal business hours.

THE BENEFITS OF TREES

Trees provide us a wide variety of benefits outside of being an ideal source of framing and building material.  Trees clean our air, filter our water and work to mitigate storms and flooding.  They provide a place to promote mindfulness and picnic, welcome shade, reduce heating and cooling in our homes, block the wind, and serve to create healthier and more connected communities.

We're excited about the future of what this program means to the community and us.
